Setting up the Sonos system is not the easiest, and you’ll be better off by getting the sound system professionally installed in your home. It will be a bit heavy on your budget, but at least you won’t have to deal with discovery-related problems. Many owners complain about the error message “Your Sonos System Was Not Found” after installing the sound system.
This is a pretty annoying error and is often linked with network bugs. You can fix this error by taking care of the network issues, and there are a ton of factors that you need to check to get your sound system in order. So, here are some fixes to help you discover the Sonos speakers through the controller application.
Your Sonos System Was Not Found
- Make Sure All Devices Are On The Same Network
Most of the time, it is just a minor problem where the controller is not on the same network as the Sonos system. If you have multiple routers installed in your household or like to make use of cellular data, try switching to the same network as all of your Sonos units. Once you’re on the same network as your Sonos units, that will address minor connection bugs, and the Sonos system should show up on the controller application.
- Improve Signal Strength
Sometimes, it is the Wi-Fi signal strength that is creating this issue for your Sonos devices. So, if you’ve just moved the router to a different spot and the unit was working perfectly up to this point, then the issue is likely with the signal strength. You need to either move the router back to its original location or move the Sonos speakers closer to the router.
Similarly, the presence of too many wireless devices between the router and the Sonos system will lead to the same complications where the Sonos system won’t show up in the controller application. So, you should reduce the distance between the router and your speakers while also removing extra wireless devices to limit interference.
- Power Cycle Missing Sonos Units
Power cycling the Sonos speakers will also help reconnect to the network and refresh the connection between the Controller and the Sonos speakers. So, if only one Sonos speaker is not showing up, try to remove power from this device for around 30 seconds and then turn the power back on. The speakers will take some time to connect to the Wi-Fi network, and you can check their presence through the controller after waiting for a few minutes.
- Try Updating Credentials
Updating the credentials on the Wi-Fi router is the next thing that should be considered when you’re dealing with discovery issues. Make sure that the channel bandwidth is set to 2.4 GHz only and the 5 GHz band is disabled. After that, you can change the credentials for the 2.4 GHz channel and then connect all your Sonos speakers with this updated channel.
That way, you won’t ever mistakenly connect the controller to the 5.0 GHz band while the devices are connected to the 2.4 GHz band. So, simply change credentials for the 2.4 GHz band and then connect to the speakers again.
- Use A Different Ethernet Cable
If you’re using a wired connection, then all problems with the Sonos system not being found can be linked to a defective ethernet cable. If you’re also in possession of a rough cable, then you should change it immediately. Try to avoid using a wire that contains frayed sections. Otherwise, you’ll run into the same issues with the Sonos system, and the unit won’t show up in the controller application.
- Reset Sonos Unit
Resetting the Sonos unit might be a bit demanding process, but that is your only option left at this stage. It will take care of all programming issues, and you will have to configure everything from scratch. However, if there are no hardware issues with the unit and it is powered up properly, then there is a decent chance that the programming bugs will be addressed at this point.
On the other hand, if you’re still unsuccessful after resetting the device, then your speakers are defective, and you should try contacting the dealer for help. He will help you with the further diagnosis of the problem.
