After pairing up your Sonos One smart speaker with streaming services you can listen to the music library available on that platform. However, if you’re not subscribed to any service, that can create complications as you won’t be able to cast music onto the Sonos speakers without Airplay.
A few customers were wondering whether or not the Sonos One will play music when they’re not home. Ideally, there shouldn’t be any issues with playing music on Sonos One when you’re away. Your mobile phone just acts as remote and other users can play music even when you’re not at home. However, if your family members are unable to get the Sonos One to play then here are some fixes that you should try.
Will Sonos One Play When I Am Not In Home?
1. Link Streaming Service
As mentioned before your mobile phone only acts as a remote control and the speakers can work even if you’re not home. However, you need to ensure that your family members have installed the Sonos application on their phone and then paired it with the Sonos existing system. Then they can easily link their music streaming subscriptions with the smart speakers and that should work without much trouble.
You can also share your credentials if they don’t have a music subscription. That way they will be able to play music on Sonos One when you’re not home using your Spotify account. It is probably better if you subscribed to the Spotify family service to manage the recommendations on the platform. If you’ve linked the streaming service properly then there shouldn’t be any issues with playing music on your Sonos smart speakers.
2. Use Airplay
If you’re not comfortable with sharing your credentials with others then they can also play music on Sonos One with Airplay. If they have an iPhone, they can cast music from their mobile phone onto the smart speakers. That way even if they are not subscribed to any particular service, they will be able to play music from the library on their smartphone.
So, if you have a standard Spotify subscription then you can’t play music in two places simultaneously. Either you will need to switch to a family account or your family members can use the Airplay feature to cast music on their smart speakers.
3. Ask Sonos
If you and your family members have different subscriptions and you can’t get the music working on your smartphone after linking the music service with your smart speakers, then there is likely an issue with your smart speakers. You should try resetting the speakers to factory settings and then link your music services again to troubleshoot minor bugs. You can also reach out to Sonos Support if none of the troubleshooting steps are working out for you.
However, it is highly unlikely that there will be issues with Sonos One when you leave the house. Sonos One uses your home network to play music and it will work just fine even when you’re not home. The only thing you need to ensure that other members in your apartment have linked their streaming services with the smart speakers individually.
