While Vivint is not as popular as Ring when it comes to smart doorbells, the security units from this brand still hold a pretty decent reputation in the market. You will enjoy incredible value from this device as long as you install it perfectly with the existing system.
These issues with the chime are pretty common for users that are not that experienced in dealing with electrical components. So, there is a good chance that you’ll be dealing with similar problems if you install the unit yourself.
Luckily, you can try some of the basic troubleshooting methods mentioned here to get the chime working with the Vivint doorbell.
Vivint Doorbell Chime Not Working
- Reboot Vivint Doorbell
The easiest solution to this condition with the Vivint doorbell not responding to your chime is to reboot the doorbell. It will barely take a minute and can help you fix the majority of programming-related issues. So, if the chime is connected perfectly with the system and it was working well up to this point, then you need to simply reboot the doorbell.
All you have to do is to hold down on the camera button for around 10 seconds, and the LED will start switching colors. Keep on holding the button until the LED starts to flash yellow light, and you can let go to reboot the light. On the other hand, if you wish to reset the doorbell, then you will have to hold down on the button for around 25 seconds.
- Unmute Chime & Update Configurations
Sometimes, your chime is just muted, and you need to update the configurations on the doorbell to get the chime to work again. So, instead of immediately isolating the issue with the system hardware, it is a better idea to go through all settings once more.
Make sure that the chime is not muted, and then increase the volume by a fair margin. This will be enough to get your device working again, and you won’t have to bother with replacing the chime in your system.
- Check Power Connections
If you’re sure that there are no configuration-related issues, then you have to check the power connections. Making use of a multimeter with the doorbell and the chime will help you check for continuity.
This will make it easier to narrow down on voltage issues, and you can immediately replace defective connections to get the power back to your chime. So, make sure to grab a multimeter or any other voltage measuring device to get your system working again.
- Restart Main Panel
Restarting the main panel is not always a smart move, but at this point, you’re not left with many options. So, you should disarm the panel and then use your pin to access the display. Now, you can browse through the configuration and then click on the reboot option to restart the system.
You will have to wait for a while and allow the system to restart. Hopefully, the chime will start responding to the Vivint doorbell after the doorbell is updated.
- Power Cycle Chime
Some users were also able to fix the issue with the Vivint doorbell chime not working by power cycling the chime. So, you should follow a similar method and remove all power connections from the unit. You can switch off the breaker for a few minutes or remove the battery from the chime to isolate the power. Once a few minutes are up, connect power to your chime again and then try to engage it through Vivint Chime.
- Claim Warranty
If you’re still stuck with the Vivint doorbell chime not working even after going through all of these fixes, then you need to grab a replacement. There is a decent chance that your device is defective, and you won’t be able to secure any response from the chime. Luckily, the warranty policies on the Vivint units are pretty decent, and you can claim the warranty to get a free replacement. So, reach out to the Vivint dealer and explain the situation. If your claim is indeed valid, it won’t be that hard to secure a new unit.
