How To Fix Teckin Smart Plug Not Working?
Many users are having trouble with Teckin smart plug. No matter what they do, the Teckin smart plug is not working.
Even if they do manage to connect the smart plug with their home network, the smart plug still won’t work as intended.
If you are one of the users who are facing such issues with their Teckin smart plug, then you may need to do some troubleshooting.
Through this article, we will be mentioning a number of ways how you can fix this. You can find all of them mentioned down below:
- Power Cycle Your Smart Plugs
The very first thing that you can try here is to power cycle your smart plugs. It is a very simple and basic way to troubleshoot smart plugs.
Just unplug the smart plugs and leave them for a few seconds. Ideally, you would want them unplugged for more than 15 seconds.
Proceed with plugging the smart plugs back in and check if the issue persists.
- Recheck The Condition Of The Contact Points
Here, you need to check the condition of the contact points on the plug. While it is not that common for the connection points to be damaged or dirty, gunk can still build up after years of use.
So, if you’re in the same situation, there is no harm in fixing the condition of the contact sections.
You just have to remove the plug from the socket and then thoroughly check the contacts. If they appear to be rusty or covered with buildup, just clean them up.
All you need here is a rust cleaner from the market. It won’t set you back a great deal, and you will be able to get the ideal response from the plug.
However, if you’re still not sure about spending money on a rust cleaner, just make one yourself. You don’t need much, and a bit of vinegar diluted in a container will do the trick.
From there, you can dampen a cloth and then wipe away the gunk on this unit.
Make sure to let the Teckin smart plug dry out before connecting it to an outlet. Ideally, you can wipe away the residue here and then leave it in the sunlight for around 2 hours.
The sun might damage the finish on your plug, but it will help evaporate the residue.
Now, you can connect the plug back to the power source and then check the response from the smart device. It should respond accordingly if you’ve not damaged the device.
- Check For Voltage Issues
While the possibility is slim, there is still a chance that your voltage output is to blame here. If you don’t get the electrical connections checked every year by an expert, then you’re in this situation as well.
Devices like a multimeter will give you more perspective on this situation.
If the problem is with the voltage and the reading on the multimeter is not optimal, try switching over to a different outlet.
In the meanwhile, you need to hire an expert and have him take a look at the Eclectica connections.
It is mandatory for every homeowner to have their electrical connections maintained at least once every year.
This will not only keep your appliances in good shape, but you will also secure a consistent repose from the power connections.
Some users prefer to go cheap on the hiring fees and try to fix the connections themselves.
These users end up electrocuting themselves or frying their appliances. So, instead of focusing on the hiring cost, you need to prioritize efficiency.
- Make Sure That Your Router Is Within Range
The router range might also be to blame here. You have to make sure that the plug is within the 20 ft range of the router.
From there, you can check the response from the smart unit one more time. There is no harm in refreshing the network connection by rebooting the router here.
So, if you’re sure that the problem is not related to the power supply to the plug, just adjust the network connection.
It will only take a bit of your time, and you have to make sure that there are no thick walls between your smart devices.
Ideally, your issue with the network will be fixed if there are no problems with the channel bandwidth and interference from other units.
It all comes down to the situation, and your first step should always be to reduce the distance between the router and the plug.
- Check Channel Bandwidth
The channel bandwidth might also be to blame here. Even if you’re using a reliable dual-band router, it can create problems with the channel bandwidth.
This is especially true if you’re using the same credentials for the 5.0 GHz and the 2.4 GHz networks.
So, if you’re in the same boat, just remove the 5.0 GHz network for a brief moment. It will take a bit of your time to update these configurations, but you’re not left with many options here.
Once the 5.0 GHz network is removed, you can test out the 2.4 GHz network one more time. Make sure that the range is an option, and then connect specifically to the 2.4 GHz network.
Hopefully, you won’t even have to think about more fixes at this stage.
- Try Limiting Interferences
If you’re unlucky and the problem with the router persists, then you have to limit the interference from other wireless devices. This includes all of the extra accessories that are connected to the same network.
So, just turn off these devices for a brief moment and then recheck the response.
If the issue is not fixed right here, make sure to also put the plug in the direct line of sight of the router. From there, it is not that hard to fix the problem.
So, focus more on isolating the issue, and you won’t have to worry about anything.
- Reset Your Smart Plugs
Resetting could also help, especially in these kinds of situations. What resetting does is that it clears all the information currently stored in the smart plug.
This also means that you will have to go through the setup again once you reset the plugs.
The procedure of resetting the smart plugs should be mentioned in your user manual. If not, you can easily search how you can do it on the internet for your specific model of the smart plug.
- Reinstall the App
There’s a chance that your smart plug could be completely fine, and the issue is with your app instead. Hence, just in case, we recommend reinstalling the app on your smartphone.
- Bad Pair of Smart Plugs
If the above-mentioned steps aren’t working, then chances are that you could have a bad pair of smart plugs. In this case, there isn’t much that you can do.
The only possible solution is to get the smart plugs replaced with new ones. If the smart plugs are under warranty, you can get them replaced for free by contacting support.
The Bottom Line
Through this article, we have managed to explain how you can easily fix Teckin smart plugs not working. Be sure to read through the article in order to find out!
The majority of errors are related to the power supply problems to the Teckin plug. So, you have to make sure that the voltage output is optimal and that this smart plug is not damaged.
However, if you’re sure that the issue is not related to the power, you will have to check the router next.
The problem might just be with the connection, and it can take a while to narrow down these errors. So, go through the basic network troubleshooting methods, and then recheck your device.
2 of my teckin smart plug have suddenly stopped working. They won’t even turn on. No light, nothing.
I’m disabled and these helped me access a room without having to reach for the light and also provided security when away from the house.
Seems to be a problem with these plug. Now down to only 2 working plugs.
How do I fix this.
I had a pack of 4. They were all working. I unplugged them for a few months. Plugged one in and it worked for about a week then just stopped. Light doesnt come on. Tried another one. Same issue. The other 2 are working. Only used for 6 months although had them for a year.
If you bought devices from amazon, they cannot be linked, as luck would have it they disappeared on amazon after june 2021. If you believe in coincidence, buy yourself a lottery ticket.
All but one of my 6 smart plugs work. I’ve tried everything to get it to work but no deal. It did work once. At a complete loss
Smart plug quit and will not power up at all. It died! Disappointing.
Same here. Just won’t come on.
