Electronics can last a long time if you use them properly and take care of their maintenance. Taking a few extra minutes to clean your devices and put them in their proper place can save you hundreds of bucks in the long run, and also your devices look better that way.
A lot of people don’t like to keep their electronics clean whether it is due to laziness or they just don’t have the time. But in the long run, it costs more to not look after your machines than it does to spare a few seconds to maintain them.
How To Fix Roomba Not Charging?
Several users are experiencing issues with their Roomba not charging properly. This might be because of issues like dirt being stuck in the charging ports or faulty batteries. Here is a list of ways you solve this problem.
1. Clean the Contact Points
The most common issue with the Roomba not charging is that dirt gets stuck on the contact points of its charging port. This is why it is highly recommended that you clean your Roomba daily. Otherwise, issues like these and many more will keep piling up. Just take a cloth with some alcohol on it and start cleaning the contact points. After that try plugging the Roomba back in to charge and it will most probably fix the problem for you.
2. Reset the Roomba
Sometimes it is just an issue with the software, you might be experiencing a bug that shows Roomba is not charging even though it is. To reset you just need to hold down the clean and dock buttons until you start hearing a beeping noise coming from it and then release the buttons to reset it. Some Roomba also comes with a dedicated reset button which you just have to hold down for 10 seconds and it will reset the Roomba. When the Roomba boots back up try plugging it again and it should start charging.
3. Switch the Outlet
Usually, the case with Roomba not charging is that the power outlet it is plugged in is faulty and is not supplying enough power for the Roomba to charge properly. Try plugging in the Roomba into a different outlet and your problem will be fixed.
4. Clean the Docking Station
Sometimes a Roomba can bring with it the dirt that gets stuck onto the connection ports of the docking station. That stops the ports from charging the Roomba. Cleaning the docking station with rubbing alcohol can prove to be a quick fix in such scenarios. Your Roomba should start charging properly after you have cleaned the dock.
5. Fix the Battery Position
Many people have reported that after they received a brand-new Roomba it was having issues charging and turning on. This can be due to the batteries getting displaced from their position in the shipping process. To fix the position of the batteries just open the 5 screws on the base of the Roomba and open the battery compartment. Make sure the batteries are put in place correctly. Put the screws back in and plug in the Roomba and it will start charging.
6. Replace the Dock
Sometimes it can also be the case that the docking station is malfunctioning which is why the Roomba is not getting enough power supply to charge. If you have already tried cleaning the docking station and the Roomba and it is still not charging then you should get a replacement dock. If your warranty is still in place then it should not take you more than a week to get a replacement order.
7. Factory Reset
Charging issues can be linked with the software bugs in the Roomba. Hard resetting the Roomba can fix this issue. But you would have to map your home again which can prove to be quite a hassle. So, make sure to try other fixes before you decide to factory reset your Roomba. However, if you have a smaller apartment then you won’t have to wait as much for Roomba to map your home. It will be done in probably under an hour.
8. Replace Batteries
Most of the charging issues relate to faulty batteries. New batteries don’t cost as much and it is relatively simple to replace batteries in a Roomba. You just have to unscrew the battery compartment and put in the new battery and close the compartment again. Then turn the Roomba back on and plug it into the outlet or docking station and it should start charging just fine.
9. Customer Support
If none of the fixes seem to work for you then you should contact Roomba support to help you solve this issue. You can also go to the community forums to get into contact with other users who were facing similar issues with the Roomba charging.
10. Claim Warranty
If nothing seems to fix the charging issue for your Roomba then it is most likely that your Roomba is faulty and you should get it replaced. If the warranty is still intact you should have no trouble in receiving a replacement order in a week. If not, you also have to option to take your Roomba to a repair center to get it fixed. It can also be the case that there is some issue with the internal circuits of Roomba. So, make sure to get a professional to take a look at your device and fix it for you.
These were a few fixes you can try to get your Roomba to start charging. The most effective one is still to make sure the contact points are clean both on the base of the Roomba and on the docking station. You won’t believe how common it is for dirt to get stuck on the contact point and prevent the Roomba from charging. Even though contact points might look shiny there is no harm in still cleaning them with rubbing alcohol. Make sure you clean your Roomba daily and you won’t run into similar problems again.
