The group function on the Ring security application has proven to be effective time and time again for homeowners. However, the configurations are a bit hard to manage for some users, and you will often come across issues with the Ring Light group not working. This problem is not that rare and can be indirectly traced back to installation issues.
Ring Light Group Not Working
So, try to get the lights installed by a professional to avoid these problems. Usually, you won’t have to go through extensive troubleshooting steps to get the Ring system working again.
However, if you sometimes do get stuck in situations where the Ring Light group is not working, then the following details in the troubleshooting guide should help you around this issue.
- Try Temporarily Removing FLC
The majority of users that were struggling with the same issue mentioned that they were able to get ahead of this issue by temporarily removing the FLC features. So, you should also try to get rid of the Floodlight Cam features and then enable them again. This would get the groups working again as long as you’re sure there was nothing wrong with the parking process. Refreshing these configurations should be enough, and you won’t have to worry about resetting the lights.
- Turn Off Bluetooth & VPN
Sometimes, Bluetooth and VPN both play a role in creating this issue with the Ring light group not working. So, make sure to test out the application by turning off the Bluetooth and VPN along with all other applications from the background. Make sure that no third-party application is active that can play a role in compromising the connection.
Once the interferences are removed, you will be able to get the Ring Light group working again. So, if you’re lucky, the problem with the light group will be fixed at this point, and you will be able to get the light group to work again.
- Power Cycle Lights
A few users also pointed out that minor connectivity bugs are fixed by power cycling the connected lights. So, even if you’ve paired up the lights correctly, there is a chance that you’re dealing with the same bugs. All you need to do in this situation is to turn off the power to the lights for a few moments and then turn on the lights again. This won’t take up much of your time, and once the lights are on, you can try to control the whole group again. Hopefully, the light group will respond to your input this time around.
- Check the Range Of Router & Bridge
While the users do focus on the range between the bridge and the lights, they forget about the connectivity between the router and the bridge. Interferences and connectivity-related issues with the smart device play a role in the performance of the Ring Light group. So, try to refresh the network connection and minimize the range between the bridge and the router. Make sure that the bridge is kept within 20 feet of the router. This will be enough to improve the signal strength, and you will be able to connect the Ring Lights with the smart group.
- Reinstall Ring Application
The Ring application can also be a valid reason behind the light groups not working. If you’re on an outdated version and didn’t bother updating the application in a while, then you should remove the current version from the mobile and install the latest version of the Ring application. Otherwise, you will keep running into the same issues with the Ring Light group not working. So, get yourself the updated application and then try using the group feature.
- Remove and Add Lights Again
Lastly, if the Ring Light group is not working even after trying out all of the methods mentioned above, then you need to remove all the lights and add them again. Make sure to test out the response from the lights after adding them to the app. This will not only help you isolate the issue to a defective component, but you will also be able to eliminate connectivity-related issues. So, remove all the lights from the group and then add them again. Make sure to also involve customer support members if you’re unable to isolate the problem.
