These days, there seems to be a smart device for pretty much everything. Most of the time, all that they do is make one small element of our lives that slight bit easier or more entertaining.
But, with devices such as the Ring Doorbell, the function they serve is so much more important.
Instead of having to fork out crazy money for dedicated home security equipment, we can now take that into our own hands for a fraction of the cost.
The trouble is that for some of you, you have been reporting a particularly annoying issue with your Ring Doorbell.
Naturally, this won’t do. A safety-oriented device that isn’t working is little more than a mild deterrent.
The issue that most of you seem to be facing recently is one where you can’t seem to access the event history of the device, only the live stream.
In this article, we will do our best to explain why this is happening and how to fix it. Before we do, we would like to iterate that we are in no way linked to the company. We are just some guys that help people fix things online.
Ring Doorbell Event History Not Working
According to the various reports we have received about the problem, all the basic functions of the device are still intact. You all seem to be able to watch live footage of whoever’s outside your door.
But, when it comes to tracking back through events, it seems like this function is entirely disabled and unavailable.
In the next few sections, we’ll explain exactly why this is happening and what you can do about it. So, let’s just get right into it!
1. Have You Purchased the Protection Plan?
First up, you will need to check whether or not you have purchased the protection plan. It seems that some things have changed with the way this device works in recent times..
Unfortunately, that means that if you don’t have the plan, you can’t access the event history.
As far as we know, there is no magical way around this that doesn’t involve forking out the cash for the protection plan. This plan allows the main user to save, review, and share any movements that are captured by the plan.
As to why they seem to have only made this a necessary extra in recent times, we don’t know. It doesn’t seem like the best business decision we have ever seen.
If you have the subscription to this service, the solution to the issue is a little different. We will go into that now.
2. Troubleshooting the Ring Doorbell
If you can’t access the event history function and you have spent money for the protection plan, there are a few things to do.
First up, you will need to make sure that the main user is the user that is trying to review the history. If some other user is logged in, they won’t be able to access this service.
If the main user is the one logged in, there may be something wrong with the device itself. Before giving up on it entirely, we would first make absolutely sure that the device is within range of your router.
If it is receiving proper signal, this would point to there being something far more severe in play. The best you can hope for in that case is that you can get it repaired or replaced.
So, rather than manually trying to fix it and risking damaging the device, we would recommend going straight to customer service first.
We’re relatively sure that they are getting a lot of complaints of this nature right now (mostly due to the service being moved to a subscription), so they will definitely be well versed on how to fix it.
The Last Word
So, that’s it. It is unfortunate that we could not get you a magic fix for the problem this time.
When services like these decide to make a function that was previously available to all a subscription service, it is natural that they may annoy a lot of their customer base.
That’s why it seems like a strange move to us. It is a very good smart device, but it seems like this was not a great idea if they want to retain customers.
Door bill not work they cheat people only live work not history
We used to love ring but now we can’t do anything except for looking at live but to go back to events and you click on it and you can’t open anything! We need to start looking for something else I don’t like this at all anymore!
Time to look for something new. Why should I have to pay over and over when there are other products you buy once and your set.
Ring was great until you got greedy.
So I can set my ring up to do snap shot feature but can’t view it without a protection plan?
What even is a protection plan?
I may end up going with SimpliSafe doorbell if I can’t work this one out!
What happened to my history view on ring. Are used to have a icon that would give me the slide that would go back several days and I could view day and night operations like every five minutes and I could see anything that was happening in that. That seems to be gone now or is it hidden someplace
I’m having this issue too; started today. My OS is up to date and I tried I reinstalling the app. No joy. Did you get it sorted?
I cancelled my ring plan which is still up to 19th Dec 2021 and they have already disconnected my events history, pretty brutal considering my plan is still active, I only get live view.
I received a new Ring doorbell 3 which was even worse then my pro 2 version, it kept losing connection even though I am on high speed fibre broadband, Ring has went downhill since being taken over with Amazon.
Omg the same thing happened to us! I hate Ring! We had better luck with nest the only thing bad about that is the picture wasn’t as clear but at least at worked this thing you can’t even look at anything anymore Except for live you! What good is this!
Why is buying the protection plan necessary to view the history? It seems Ring is using an essential, but unrelated feature to force users to buy an unneeded protection plan. It’s time to ditch Ring.
What if we do not what to purchase the protection plan. Do we need to purchase just to view history. We can still see the Live but nothing else
I agree, ring seriously messed up by removing this. To the point that I’m ready to look at alternatives.
