A smart light switch is very convenient to have especially when you take into consideration all the different features that you can access after installation. There are hundreds of different brands that are offering these smart devices but very few of them can be considered as reliable.
You will often notice people complaining about their dimmer light switches on online forms, where the dimmer light switch will turn on by itself and users won’t be able to keep their lights switched off. Here is what you should do if you’re in a similar condition and your dimmer switches are not working.
How to Fix Dimmer Light Switch Turns On By Itself?
- Reinstall Dimmer
If the lights are turning on even though the dimmer is in the off position then you should try reinstalling the dimmer and make sure to follow every instruction in the manual. But if for some reason the issue persists after you’ve reinstalled the dimmer then try resetting the dimmer to factory setting.
As there is a possibility that you’re running into this issue because of a technical bug. Resetting the dimmer will allow you to troubleshoot this problem and you can refer to the online guide depending upon which brand of dimmer switch you own.
Then have also been cases where users running into this problem had faulty motion sensors installed in line with their lights. So, even though the dimmer was turned off the sensor will switch on the lights. It is recommended that you go through your lighting configurations to find out the actual issue.
- Replace Dimmer
If the dimmer switch is physically switching to the on position, then the probability of mechanical issues with the device increases. You need to ensure that you put the dimmer properly into the off position and not leave it stuck in the middle, as that can create similar issues for your lighting. Furthermore, you also need to consider the possibility of your pets turning the dimmer switch to the on position when you’re asleep.
If you don’t have any pets and your dimmer switch keeps turning to the on position then the only option left to you is to buy a new dimmer switch. So, to get your lighting working again properly we suggest that you switch to a more reliable brand and that should fix your dimmer problem.
- Official Support
It can be pretty unsettling when your lights turn on by themselves. For most users reinstalling the dimmer and resetting it to factory settings fixed the issue. But if you’re not able and don’t want to buy a new dimmer then ask the support team of the brand that you’re using for guidance.
Inform them about your dimmer issue in a support ticket. You can also interact with other customers that are running into similar problems by going to online forums. Maybe you will be able to land on a fix that will get your dimmer working again and you won’t have to pay for a new smart switch.
I have LEVITON DHC controls with INTELLISENSE. The switches are hooked up as 3 way switches. There are 6 switches (3 & 3) total. The issue is that the lights turn on and off randomly. This occurs about 2 -3 times per every 24 hours. Appreciate any suggestions on how to correct or how to identify the problem.
Thank you
