Yeelight is a smart bulb launched by Xiaomi, it is inexpensive and does not require a hub to function properly. You can integrate it with home automation devices like Homekit, Alexa, or Google Home. Doing this will make it possible to use your smart device with voice commands.
Recently a lot of customers have been complaining about different issues they’re running into while using Yeelight by Xiaomi. In this article, we will be going over a few of these common issues and how you can troubleshoot them.
Common Yeelight Problems Troubleshooting
- Yeelight Not Connecting to Wi-Fi
One of the most common problems that users have mentioned is not being able to get their Yeelight connected to Wi-Fi. It can be due to a lot of reasons that mostly relate to your home network. Here are some possible fixes that can help you sort out this problem.
First of all, make sure that there are no special characters in your Wi-Fi name or password. Yeelight does not support special characters and will not connect to any router with a special character in its name or password. Just change the Wi-Fi credentials into simple alphanumeric and give your router a quick restart. After the router is back on try connecting to the network again. One more thing you can do is change your router DNS to 8.8.8.8.
Another possible reason for this error is that your router is either on a 5.0GHz bandwidth channel or has a dual bandwidth feature. To make sure go to your router settings using the web interface and log in to the admin panel. After that navigate to channel settings and switch the channel bandwidth from 5.0GHz to 2.4GHz. If your router has dual-band channels then you’ll have to connect your smart device to your mobile hotspot using the same Wi-Fi credentials to force it to connect to the 2.4Ghz band channel.
- Yeelight Not Working with Alexa
A lot of users have been complaining about getting their smart device to work with the Alexa app, this makes them unable to control the Yeelight using the voice commands. Here are some possible fixes you can try to sort out this problem.
Usually, this error is because of a minor bug that can easily be resolved. First of all, open up the Alexa app and remove the Yeelight skill. After that close the app and go to your phone settings. From there navigate to the Alexa app and clear all app data. Doing this can troubleshoot minor bugs, once that is done just restart your mobile device and launch the Alexa App. Add the Yeelight skill again and it should start working properly.
If the problem persists then we suggest that you reset your smart bulb. To do this simply turn your bulb off and on around 5 times till you notice the bulb started flashing. After that just wait for around 10 seconds and the bulb will restart and emit white light. This entails that the bulb has reset and now you can configure it again with your mobile app.
- Yeelight Not Turning On
Some users are experiencing issues with getting their Yeelight device to turn on. Either it will take too long to turn on or won’t turn on altogether. This can be quite frustrating when you can’t even turn on the bulb using physical buttons because of the server connection.
If you’re not able to get your Yeelight to turn on altogether then it is likely that you did something wrong during the installation process. Due to which the bulb is not able to receive power from the source. Which is why it won’t turn on. Make sure to follow the user manual step by step and install the bulb again.
Yeelight gets frequent firmware updates to stay ahead of these minor bugs that might cause your smart device to take a long time to turn on. To sort out this problem go into the user settings and check for firmware updates. If your problem persists or you’re having any other issue with your Yeelight then we recommend that you contact Yeelight support to help you out. They will make sure that your smart device is fixed or replaced if the issue is not resolved.
