While there have been no complaints about the cleaning quality of Bissell carpet cleaners, many users have pointed out problems with the fragile tank. As long as you’re keeping your unit in optimal condition, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get rid of even the most annoying stains on your carpet. However, ignoring the maintenance of your Bissell carpet cleaner will only lead to issues with the suction of your device.

A lot of customers have been struggling with similar issues where the Bissell Carpet Cleaner will not be picking up any water. So, if you’re in the same shoes as this cleaner, there are a few things that you can do about this situation. Just follow through with some of these fixes, and hopefully, you’ll be able to fix the cleaner in no time.

Fixing Bissell Carpet Cleaner Not Picking Up Water

  1. Adjust The Water Tank

Most of the time, the water tank is not placed properly on the unit, and you need to reseat the tank properly to get the dirty water back in the tank. Try to gently pull the tank from the assembly. If you’re able to pick up the tank without any issues, then you’ll be sure that the tank was not seated properly on the unit.

All you have to do at this point is to adjust this tank properly, and that will be it when it comes to suction issues. You should be able to get the dirty water outside the bladder as soon as you position the handle properly.

  1. Check Tank Assembly

Start by checking out the tank assembly to isolate the issue with your tank. You need to make sure that the tank is assembled properly and fits perfectly on the tank seat. If the tank is leaking water or maintains poor integrity, then you will have to go through the manual instructions one more time to latch the handles properly. You won’t be able to pick up any water through the machine if the latches are too loose.

  1. Empty Out Water Tank

Emptying out the water tank is also a decent fix when you’re struggling with suction issues. There is a good chance that your tank has no more space for dirty water. So, if the outer tank seems to be filled with dirty water, then now is your time to take care of the excess water.

You won’t be able to do anything with a filled tank, and emptying it out should fix the problems with Bissell Carpet cleaner not picking up water. Hopefully, you won’t have to bother with more issues.

  1. Power Cycle Your Machine

Sometimes, all you need to do is to remove power from the machine. It might just be a minor problem with the unit, and restarting the device should address the suction issues. So, just focus on removing power from the tank and then resupply the power after a few minutes.

If there are no hardware issues with the unit, this should be enough to help with the power problems. Ideally, the problem will be fixed at this point, and you won’t have to go through more problems when trying to suck out the dirty water.

  1. Clean red Lint Screen

At this point, you need to check the condition of the red lint screen meant to filter debris through the unit. When this screen is clogged with debris, you will notice a rapid decline in the performance of the machine.

So, just remove the tank to access the red lint screen. If it is indeed clogged up with excessive debris, you will have to clean out the red lint screen. That should be enough to help you through this issue with the screen not working correctly.

  1. Check The Condition Of The Float Door

Sometimes, the red float door on your unit can close up when you bump the cleaner across a hard surface. If you’re also that mindful of the cleaning process, then there is no harm in checking the position of the red float door.

The position of the red float door is set to open as soon as you turn off the cleaner. So, turn off the cleaner for a few moments and check the position of the red float door. You might have to manually change the position of this float door to address the suction issues. If the issue is not that serious, simply turning the device off and on should fix this situation with the red door.

  1. Check For Cracks On The Tank

There is always a possibility that the water tank is cracked, and you need to check the condition of the water tank to isolate the issue. You can’t do much about the issue yourself, and you will have to buy a new tank for your unit. The best option here is to simply reach out to the dealer and try to claim a warranty on your unit.

If your claim is valid, it shouldn’t be too hard to get a new piece for your unit. However, if the warranty has expired, you will have to put in some budget to get the new tank. That should be enough to help you through the issues with the water tank.

  1. Call Bissell Support For Help

If the issue with the Bissell carpet cleaner not picking up water is still persistent, then you need to call Bissell support to help with the issue. There isn’t much that you can do about the problem yourself. So, try to reach out to the official support regarding these issues with the carpet cleaner. They will make it much easier to narrow down the problem with the Bissell cleaner. Hopefully, these experts will help you isolate the problem with the Bissell unit.

Overall, if you’ve recently purchased the unit, then there is a good chance that readjusting the tank will address the problem. So, make sure to fix the tank in place and then check the response from the cleaner. Hopefully, you won’t have to bother with all of these fixes, and the unit will be fixed immediately.

  1. My 2-month-old Bissell Power Clean Max is not holding the dirty water in the dirty water tank. The dirty water enters the tank but drains back onto the floor.
