While Petcube might not be as affordable as the Furbo unit, it will bring a ton of extra features to your smart home. However, with these additional smart features, you will also have to sometimes deal with minor bugs where the Petcube LED light will keep blinking yellow. This problem is not that serious most of the time and relates to the Petcube connection with the Wi-Fi router.
You’ll have to get through the initial setup again when your Petcube camera starts blinking yellow. The following troubleshooting steps will further improve your perspective on Petcube blinking yellow and not switching to a steady white indicator after it is turned on.
Why Is Petcube Blinking Yellow?
- Check Router Encryption Mode
The WEP encryption mode is the biggest reason behind this error, and you will need to upgrade your network security to get the Petcube to stop blinking yellow. The yellow LED shows that your camera is trying to connect to the router. This LED will keep blinking yellow until the Petcube is able to connect with your home network.
Once the device is connected, the yellow flashing indicator will shift to a steady white light. This will show that the connection is complete, and you can use the camera through the mobile app. So, just update the security settings to WPA2 on your router and try connecting Petcube one more time.
- Power Cycle Router
If you’re sure that there are no issues with the security encryption and the Petcube unit was working perfectly till today, then you might just be dealing with a minor bug. Refreshing the network connection should address this situation. Here your best move is to restart the router as well as the Petcube camera.
Removing the power from both the camera and the router for 30 seconds should be enough to refresh the connection. Once the router is online, you can turn on the camera and then test the response from the LED indicator. It will start flashing yellow for a few moments and then it will turn to solid white.
- Update Firewall Settings
The firewall settings on your router can also limit the connection of your Petcube to the internet. If you’ve changed any firewall settings or MAC filtering configurations, then you need to revert back to the original settings to get the router connected with the Petcube. While resetting the route is not the ideal solution, you should go forward with the reset if you’re not sure how to update firewall settings on your router.
- Change Wi-Fi Credentials
Sometimes, you’ll have to update the Wi-Fi credentials to get the router connected with Petcube. The presence of special characters and unique symbols in the Wi-Fi credentials doesn’t work that well with smart devices.
So, if your Wi-Fi credentials have special characters, it might be a good idea to change them to simple alphabets and numeric. Using simple numbers and alphabets will address these complications. However, you will still need to connect all of your devices back to the router after the credentials are updated.
- Limit Range Between Devices
Having too many wireless devices and interference between the router and the Petcube will also play into the same error with Petcube blinking yellow. Your unit won’t be able to identify the Wi-Fi network, and you won’t get past the initial configurations. So, try to temporarily remove other wireless devices and bring the Petcube camera closer to the router. This will improve the signal strength, and you will be able to connect to the network without further complications.
- Reset Your Camera
There is also a possibility that your Petcube camera is creating this connection issue. You won’t be able to make use of the device until it is connected to the network. So, simply reset the camera and try to get through the initial setup again. As long as there are no hardware issues with the Petcube unit, it should connect with the router if you’ve gone through all of the troubleshooting steps in this guide.
On the other hand, if your Petcube unit is in rough shape, you’ll be better off contacting the dealer for support. You can’t do much yourself about fixing the hardware issues and claiming the warranty on your Petcube system might be the only option.
