Having written a lot of help articles for the Ring Doorbell, we still have to admit that we really like it as a smart home device.
At first, we were of the mindset that it was a bit of a frivolous device, but having gotten to know it better, it does have a whole lot more use value than we initially thought.
Really, it is so much more that what the name would suggest. It is also an entry level security device – and these sorts of devices are really important.
After all, security equipment is still pretty pricey for the domestic market, so it makes sense to us why the Ring Doorbell has become so popular.
But, its usefulness doesn’t end there. It is also probably the best option out there for when you want to receive alerts when someone is at your place.
It also enables you to stay connected in a really smart and user friendly way, via video and two-way communication.
We have even heard of some people who switch on the camera to check whether they have remembered to put out the trash or not. Sure, this isn’t what it was designed for, but why not?
However, if all of this was working the way it should, there wouldn’t be much chance that you would be here reading this, now would there?
Having trawled the internet looking for the sorts of issues that are facing Ring Doorbell users, one unusual one in particular caught our attention.
It would seem that a lot of you are getting repetitive false alerts, with some of you even experiencing a doorbell that just won’t stop ringing.
No one needs that extra stress in their lives, so let’s get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible. So, before you straight up just chuck the thing out, give these fixes a try.
Ring Doorbell Keeps Ringing
1. Try Restarting the Ring Doorbell
Any IT professional will tell you that restarting your device is pretty much the first thing that you should do when it starts misbehaving.
What restarting does it that it essentially refreshes the device, clearing out any bugs that may have accumulated over time.
So, if you have found yourself stuck in a loop that makes little or no sense, it’s time to give it a go. There’s no big trick to effectively restarting your Ring Doorbell.
All you need to do is find the power button or hit the restart option that you will find on your App. It makes no difference which way you do it.
Due to the fact that there are a few different models of this device, the placement of the power button can vary.
On some, it is on the outside (which isn’t all that secure, we would think), whereas with others it is tucked away safely inside.
So, whichever method you choose, it is important that you leave the device to rest for a while after switching it off. Give it some time to do its thing and then switch it back on after a minute or two.
In nearly all cases, this will have been enough to fix the problem completely and your Ring Doorbell should have stopped ringing at strange times. However, for some of you this may only work as a temporary fix.
For others, the problem will go away for good. For the unfortunate few, this will have done nothing at all. If you have found yourself in the latter group, it is time to move onto the next fix.
2. Try Resetting your Ring Doorbell
It the restart didn’t do anything at all, it is time to up the ante a little and move onto a slightly more invasive technique.
Resetting, just like restarting, is a known go-to trick for getting tech devices back on the straight and narrow. So, give this a go and with a bit of luck the problem should disappear for good.
Just like with restarting, there are two different ways to reset your doorbell too. On the doorbell itself, there is a setup button that you can press and hold in for around 20 seconds. This will get the job done.
After you have done this, be aware that it may take a moment or two for the device to reset and reboot completely.
It is important to note that, when the doorbell is reset, it automatically goes back to the same settings it left the factory with. Any data you have saved will have been lost.
The second way to reset the Ring Doorbell is via the App. All you need to do is find the option and click into it. The rest will be automated.
Hopefully, after this, everything should be back up and running again as it should be. If not, it is time to move along to the next step.
3. Reconnect the Ring Doorbell with your Smartphone
Though this fix isn’t as likely to work as the two before it, it does still work on occasion. So, because of that, we decided that it was definitely worth a try.
On occasion, the whole cause of the issue will be that there is little to no communication between the device and your phone.
Sometimes, not always, this can cause some pretty bizarre complications such as the one you are experiencing.
So, to knock this one off of the list, all you need to do is unpair the device from your phone and then pair them up again.
Again, it doesn’t work all that often, but it is definitely worth a try considering that we are coming near to the end of available fixes for this problem.
Unfortunately, the next fix is far trickier, so hopefully this one worked for you. If not, let’s get into it.
4. See if there is an Issue with the Wiring
If the above fixes didn’t work, there is a chance that your specific issue is a lot more severe than most. In that regard, you can consider yourself more than a little unlucky.
At this point, we may have to accept that the wiring in your Ring Doorbell has become a little faulty over the course of time.
For example, there could be some damage to the wiring itself, or it could have been poorly wired in the first place, or maybe some form of shortage. In either case, it is definitely worth checking this out.
That being said, we can’t in good conscience recommend that you do this yourself unless you have had some form of training that is relevant to the task.
So, take the financial hit and call in an expert to have a look. If there is anything wrong with the wiring, they will be able to get to the bottom of it in no time at all.
5. Call in for a Technician
Unfortunately, if you have gone through all of the above fixes diligently and had no success yet, the news isn’t all that positive. At this point, there really isn’t anything you can do about it from the comfort of your own home.
There is clearly something majorly wrong with your Ring Doorbell that needs some serious and dedicated professional attention. However, don’t take this as a negative review for the brand itself.
After all, situations as severe as the one you are facing are relatively rare, with the brand generally having a great record for durability and build quality.
Normally, when something goes as seriously wrong as this, it is for reasons outside of their control. For example, the device may have been exposed to excessive heat, humidity, or it might even have been vandalized.
So, the only logical course of action here is to get the device checked out by an authorized technician who has the relevant experience.
As such, we would recommend that you get in contact with customer support to get it fixed in a way that doesn’t risk compromising the warranty.

Did you fix it?? I’m having the same problem. I’m running it on battery only. Could to do with the rain or the sun?? Really, really frustrating!
