Ring Pro is one of the smartest doorbells out there that can help you with lots of interesting features such as having smart alerts over Wi-Fi, the ability to customize all those notifications, smart motion sensors, and a great camera.
Ring Pro works out flawlessly on the regular electric sockets and you don’t need much to make it work except a transformer that can lower the voltage for the Ring Pro. To understand it more, here are a few things that you would need to know.
16v 10VA Transformer Ring Pro
Why a Transformer is needed?
Ring doorbells are designed to run on a battery for an uninterrupted supply of power and to make sure that you don’t have to lose your doorbell connectivity in case of any power outages. But we also know that these batteries need a specific transformer to convert the Alternating Current from the electrical outlet to Direct Current or DC and lower the voltage for the battery to be charged efficiently and doesn’t get any sort of issues.
Since Ring Doorbell Pro requires and it is recommended to have it hardwired on your circuit, you will need a transformer that goes in your electrical circuit effectively and you can connect it with the wiring directly.
The Ratings
Now, you need to know what kind of voltages and ratings you are going to need on a transformer to be connected with your doorbell. This should be pretty easy for you to know as the instruction manual allows you to know what ratings you are going to need for them to work perfectly with your doorbell.
The second rating with the V is actually the actual Voltage from the alternating current. 16V means that it goes with the 120watts electrical grid. If that is what you are getting from your power company, that would be the perfect choice for you.
The first part with VA or VA is the voltage amperes. You can also call it the output voltages that the transformer will be supplied for your battery.
Things to consider
Now, while choosing or installing a transformer for Ring Pro, you need to be careful about certain things that will make the experience perfect for you. You will need to use the 16VAC or 24VAC depending on what kind of wattage you are getting from the electrical grid and the region you are in.
Moving forward, you also get to have a choice on output amperes. Ring Pro supports the output voltage between 10-30 VA. While a 10VA is optimally good for you to avoid overcharging or stuff like that, it might not be the right thing to have if you have old wiring, or your cables are too thin to take the electrical load, so you can change the transformer and get the higher output one to support it correctly.
Also, if you feel like your Ring Doorbell Pro or your Chimes are not getting the right power, or you want to add more chimes to the network, you will need to have your transformer stepped up.
